Day 134: Cooper Creek SA.

Once every eight years is the average the Coppers Creek flows all the way from Qld into Lake Eyre.  If you want to travel the Birdsville Track at the moment it makes it a tad interesting because no snorkel is going to get your car through four meters of water.  Enter the punt, which has been running since 1964.  Using the theory of every eight years since then it has only run eight times, not a bad job.  The punt is free but they fly the RFDS (Royal Flying Doctor Service) flag high, so you can make a donation.  It is estimated the punt will be running until the end of November 2010.  If the planes flying over right now (three in last ½ hour) are any indication of tourist dollar going through this region.  I hope it makes up for some of the leaner years they have had to tolerate.  PS:  We still seem to have an extra passenger; mouse is now two up in the loaf of bread stakes….then again I guess it is karma’s way of don’t have those carbs?
