Day 220 - Mt Roland.

One thing Tasmania isn't short on is green grass, fauna, and mountains.  Plus tracks to climb those mountains if you are willing.  Apparently it is not recommended climbing Mt Roland when icy.  Hmmm can't image why?  It stands at 1234m high.  As we're leaving Tasmania today, don't think can squeeze that adventure in.  May have to save it when come back to this awesome little pocket of Australia.  :)

Day 219 - Just Keep Walking.

Wonderful boardwalks go up, down and over the delicate mosses, marshes and button grass that line the ground of the National Park.  They go on for kilometres, the biggest being the Overland Track that takes 5 days and approx 88kms.  So after clocking up a wee 12kms; I'm thinking some practice might be in order to tackle that one.  In the meantime I'm sure a  wee glass of port, a chocolate, for energy and warmth, after walking in the cold rain, isn't going to hurt that much.  :)

Day 218 - Cradle icon.

Cradle Mountain - Dove Lake Tasmania

Apart from the daunting peaks of Cradle Mountain.  The boat house on Dove Lake would have to be one of the most photographed places in Tasmania.  The weather was setting in for about the fifth time, changing from hints of blue sky to rain.  Clouds rolling over the hills to claim the mountain once again.  By the time we got to the boat house, the rain was starting up again.  So I guess we just got to see it in a different light.

Day 217 - Pencil Pine Falls.

There are only two World Heritage Parks in the world and Tasmania has one of them.  Cradle Mountain - Lake St Claire National Park.  Just inside the boundary of the park on the Cradle Mountain side is the Pencil Pine Falls, a short walk from the Cradle Mountain Lodge.  You would think you are entering Alice in Wonderlands world with the moss covered ground and trees, a boardwalk weaving its way to the falls.  A great way to spend the afternoon.

Day 215 – Raspberry Fields.

Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Grounds....

Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm is only 40min outside Launceston, or if you drive like a Tasmanian 20 minutes :).    Raspberry affogato, raspberry waffles, pancakes, mud cake, or even chocolate covered raspberries are there to tempt the tastebuds.  Anything that can be made with raspberries is on the menu.  After all that, you can walk amongst the beautiful lakes, green fields and old school, farm houses located in the ground amid the raspberry fields, and cafe.  Plus I'm sure calories don't count on holidays, do they?  :)

Day 214 – Tamar Nights.

70kms long the Tamar River runs through Launceston.  Named after the River Tamar in Great Britain.  A tidal river the mouth is way out at Low Head, where a lighthouse sits to guide the fisherman and boaters home after a long day on the adventurous Bass Strait.  At night the tranquil waters lay quiet, and resting.  Ready for another escapade.

Day 213 – Gorge…ous.

Launceston Cataract Gorge located in the heart of Launceston is a beautiful place to get lost, ride a chairlift, and swim if you like ‘fresh’ water.  See the peacocks show off their wares, or walk on a suspension bridge just to name a few.  Earliest record of the Gorge was by an ole English settler in 1804 by William Collins who came to port in “Lady Nelson”.  A beautiful place to explore and what made it extra special today; not only did we celebrate a ‘0’ birthday but ‘surprise’ renewal of wedding vows of two very special friends.  Happy Days  :)
