Day 52 Greek God by name.

The Protea is one of nature’s unusual treasures.  Made to last they come in a huge array of colours and forms.  In 1735, they were named after the Greek God Proteus who could change his form at will.  But they date back to over 300 million years ago and mainly found in the southern hemisphere.  So maybe the Greek God himself did have a hand in it or they were once a dinosaur’s entrĂ©e.  Whatever you choose to believe they are a unique take on nature, and a beautiful part at that.

Day 51 – Broken records.

Yarra River - Melbourne

We were amongst the lucky ones today to witness the coldest May day in Melbourne for 10 years.  Isn’t that going off like a frog in a sock! As the day progressed, the temperature gauge didn’t really rise too high, a great day for the indoors.  Or jam donuts at the Victoria Markets, plus so much yummy comfort food that blow your senses away.  The turn in the weather has put travel plans back a day but all being well back on the road on Sunday.

Day 44 – Autumn Falling.

Autumn in Victoria

In Cairns and northern Queensland we really don’t have four seasons.  It is either Wet (very) or Dry, and nothing really in-between.  Winter is probably a two week window.  If you blink you’ll miss it, as the temperature may drop to 9 degrees overnight on the coast if you are lucky.  For those on top of the mountains in the Tablelands a wee bit colder.   Hard to take I know, but have to say seeing the beautiful warm colours of autumn in the flesh are a feast for the senses.  The 10 year old jumpers out of moth balls are even getting a workout.  Yahoo.

Day 38 – Mt Dandenong.

Mount Dandenong - Victoria
The mountains seem to keep dragging me back at the moment.  So we headed to Mt Dandenong to take in the view of Melbourne City and suburbs.  Rain clouds rolled in, sun tried to peak through in rays towards the ground.  In the mixture between four seasons in one day.  The speck way in the distance is the city shrouded in cloud, on a clear day you can see for miles, today we take in the clouds and the fresh mountain air.

Day 35 - Lysterfield Lake.

Lysterfield Lake - Churchill National Park Victoria
Lysterfield Lake in Churchill National Park only 40 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, offers more than just water sports.  Through the blanket of bush sneaky walking tracks appear.  Mountain bikers head for the slope to ride down, and horses weave in and out of tracks.  A great place to get the fresh air in your lungs without having to travel too far.  The beautiful blue skies continue in Melbourne – yahoo wonder how long my luck will hold out?  However, enjoying the cold weather for a change.

Day 33 - RNR.

Time out with a Tulip
It is always a bit of shock when you’ve spent time in the bush without all the hustle and bustle.  Then find yourself on a four lane highway heading into a capital city.  The ‘big smoke’ of Melbourne. So we may be out of the high country, but we get to experience another jungle of a different kind and soak up the culture of Melbourne and outlying areas for a couple of weeks.  Before we head for the hills once again.
