Day 275: China’s armoured infantryman.

One of the really special things about being in Sydney is that so many things are happening around you.  Festivals, amazing food, and exhibitions’, with the cloudy skies we left the farm lands for the CBD and headed to ‘The First Emperor China’s Entombed Warriors Exhibition’ at the Art Gallery of NSW.   I’ve been so lucky to go to China twice, but haven’t had the chance to visit Xian where the Entombed Warriors are found.  One day I hope to go Xian, but in the meantime seeing ten of the thousands of warriors at the exhibition is unreal; standing in front of thousands of years old figurines is unbelievable.   This is one of the armoured infantryman found in the first pit, they wear body and shoulder armour and both hands are positioned to hold a weapon.  In pit one only it is estimated that it contains 6,000 figures, to date 1,900 have been excavated.  It was only discovered in 1974 by a farmer ploughing his field, and he actually thought he was discovering something from his ancestors.  Little did he know it would be one of the world’s most famous archaeological finds.
