Day 289: Zingiber Zerumbet.

It might be a mouthful to say, maybe I like it because it rolls of the tongue and sounds light an exotic location (said with French accent).  No, I haven’t had any jungle juice today.  However, it would be the Latin name for another ginger plant, the Beehive Ginger.   As you know I’m no green thumb but even with the amount of different ginger flowers around at the moment.  They must be at the height of their season.  The green elongated foliage is over 2m high and these little gems grow underneath on thick stems emerging from the bottom.  When they are just a small ‘beehive’ and first appear they are yellow, and as they mature turn a vibrant red.  Making quite a spectacular sight in the tropical gardens.
