Day 288 – Nature’s cracker.

With a ‘little’ bit of rain about; bottle brush has started to fire, all over the tree.  Exploding from the buds, in a flame of red fire.  The cover is slowly creeping over the branches.  Ready for when the rain has finally gone away.  The birds will come and play.  Although with the forecast to date.  I believe the wet season is about to start in full swing with a vengeance.

Day 226 - Eyes have it.

We have some new family members as of today.  Arrived in plastic, and now they live in the lily pond.  Names to be determined on how long the lifespan is.  Plus, whether Phoenix can protect them from Tinkerbell the cat (next door).  So we will see, but they are out of the plastic, feed and still swimming.  It's a start.   Fingers crossed, they don't turn out to be a cat's delight at $5 bucks a piece!

Latest news...

All up to date now, since trip to wonderful Tasmania.  Cairns is a buzz at the moment with the up and coming solar eclipse interesting times ahead.  In the meantime here is a little friend from Tassie a spotted quoll.  Cute on the outside but with big teeth, as a taste for meat.

Day 206 – Sweet.

Summer is definitely around the corner with the explosion of summer fruit and veg’s at Rusty’s local market.  Mangos, avocados, nectarines, watermelon, peaches and not to be forgotten pineapples are just a few on offer at the markets, today.  The first written record of a pineapple was in 1398, they were referred to as a pine cone, which comes from the Spanish word pina.  To think, a Pina Colada concept started all the way back then!  :)

Day 193 - Where is Robin Hood?

Helmeted Friarbird

Friar tuck was looking for him in the woods!  Actually it was the Helmeted Friarbird that was looking for the money, I mean honey.  They like to hang out in the top part of Oz in the Cape and Coastal top end of Northern Territory.  With one of their calls described as a 'whack-a-where'.  A different way to describe it for such a diverse bird.

Day 192 - I See you.

The bottle brush is starting to bloom.  Birds are flocking in for breakfast, morning & afternoon tea, dinner.  Why wouldn't you when there is a smorgasbord on offer of nectar delights.  They duck in and out of the branches, hiding pretending we can't see them and vice versa.  On the odd occasion we get a glimpse of each other and then it is business as usual.   No time to waste on sweet nectar. :)

Day 45 – Furry Friends.

Kangaroo; mum & bub

Today was the global Bring Me Hope charity (USA based) walk.  To raise funds for the kids to go to camp this summer in China.  Five countries participated this year, and we added the Australian flavour of the Kangaroo on our walk with joey.  Very cliché but cute all at the same time.  Huge thanks to my family and friends who braved the rain and cold to come walking and those who donated money.  Can’t wait to get to China this summer (Northern Hem) catch up to old friends, new wonders, and those beautiful kids – yahoo.

Day 23 – On the road again.

Day 4 of being on the road from Cairns to the Victoria High Country and the temperatures are dropping.  The great thing, the skies are clear and blue.  The autumn leaves are shining through their beautiful warm colours, as they fall to the ground creating a blanket of warmth on the vivid green lawns of the park.  It’s great to see autumn in full swing we really don’t see that too much in the north.  Happy days J
