We seem to be on a bit of a lakes tour driving back home from Northern NSW. Not a bad way to go. Arriving on twilight at Lake Elphinstone, 92km west of Mackay was a wonderful sight. After a longish day on the road. It is one of the many free camping areas. Except this one you can go swimming, boating, have hot 'donkey' showers, toilets and best thing you can have your 4 legged friend too. So when it is free, and you have that spare time, why not. If you don't mind sharing, it's not a bad spot to be.
