Ever looked up at the stars and wondered what happens when the light goes out? A question to ponder and get the brain going for a Saturday night and no I haven’t been into the happy juice. It is believed by an old Indian legend that a water lily was formerly a star. It fell from the sky, into the water and changed to a flower. Closer to home in Arnhem Land, the water lily is a favourite food that is gathered after the lily dies and the pod ground between two rocks to make dough and thrown in the ashes of the fire. Besides its beauty sitting on the surface of the pond, it has many uses, and legends written about them. For now I’m just going to sit back and admire their splendour, whilst being hungry looking up at the stars!
