A mother protects her young no matter what. Be it in the world of insects, warm and fuzzy animals or humans. I have to hand it to this Golden Orb, she may be down a couple of legs from the recent stiff breeze; however, she is starting all over again and building a web to house her young. Although I’m thinking the teenager sitting right on top of her could put in a bit more of an effort – joking. By the way this is not a macro shot. These spiders are huge and the female being the biggest out of the breeding two. Mum here can grow up to 50mm long in her body and leg-spans (when you have them all) reaching up to 200mm or more. Her strong web is usually one metre (just over three feet) at the moment there is a bit of work needed but I’m sure she will get there. I’m betting that isn’t a web you want to walk through when wondering around the rainforest, might be in for a wee surprise. Keep those eyes open, it appears like a lot of things in the north, they breed them big.
365 days = 365 photographs..rules of engagement; 1.I have to take a photo each day, no matter where I am and what I am doing. 2. Post it, when possible. Not all the places I will be visiting have access to the web; yes I know it is hard to believe but there are still some places like that exist, and they are amazing. 3. No photos from your film library can be used or posted..remember it isn't about the destination, but the journey that takes us there..enjoy. :)
